Understanding Your Report

Every number in your RoofRecon report means something specific. This guide explains each metric, what it's used for, and how to apply it on the job.

The core numbers

Roof Measurements

These are the foundational measurements every contractor needs. They're calculated from satellite imagery by RoofRecon's proprietary measurement engine and verified across multiple data sources.

01

Total Roof Area

2,847 sq ft

The total surface area of all roof facets combined, measured in square feet. This is the pitch-adjusted area — meaning it accounts for the slope of your roof, not just the flat footprint.

Pro Tip

This number will always be larger than the building footprint because pitched roofs have more surface area than the ground they cover.

02

Building Footprint

2,200 sq ft

The flat ground-level area the building covers, measured in square feet. Think of it as looking straight down at the building from above — the shadow it casts at noon.

03

Roofing Squares

28.47 squares

Total roof area divided by 100. One roofing square = 100 square feet. This is the standard unit for ordering materials and quoting jobs in the roofing industry.

Pro Tip

When a supplier says '30 squares of shingles,' they mean enough material to cover 3,000 square feet of roof.

04

Number of Facets

8 facets

The total count of individual flat planes that make up the roof. A simple gable roof has 2 facets. A complex hip roof with dormers might have 12 or more.

05

Measurement Accuracy

97%+ (within 3–5%)

RoofRecon delivers 97%+ measurement accuracy — within 3–5% of field measurements. This is the contractor-grade industry standard, equivalent to on-site measurement precision.
